6 Powerful Ways to Spice Up Your Workouts!
One thing I hear a lot of, “My workouts are boring, they just don’t motivate me to do them!” Well, sure, if you’re doing the same thing over and over, week after week, it will get boring. That’s why I love my Beachbody workouts, they mix things up all the time! But, here are six ways you can add a little change to your workouts to make them more effective and less boring!
1. Start With The Show-Off Muscles
These muscles are your shoulders and biceps. They’re some of the easiest sports to in, in as little as two weeks, so target them first. Even if you work only these areas, you’ll be inspired to do more once you start seeing the results.
2. Exercise In Front Of A Mirror
No matter what workout you’re doing, form is key! And mirrors are a great help here. Plus, they allow you to see your muscles in motion, highlighting new definition. This may be one reason women rate their reflections highest following a workout.
3. Lift To A Beat
I grew up with a transistor radio in my hand almost all the time. Now, I have music going on when I work, when I play, and when I drive. (When I hike, no music is allowed, the music is provided by Mother Nature.) When I’m biking, walking or running, I have specific play-lists for that activity. These songs are mostly high-energy, fast songs that will keep my feet moving at the proper pace.
Always be safe when exercising outdoor. Don’t let the music be too distracting. Be aware of your surroundings and traffic.
4. Make It A Game
Set a 2-week, 4-week, or 8-week challenge to stay on track. For example, aim to double the number of seconds you can hold a plank; a good 2-week challenge. Or you want to shave 10 seconds off your 5K pace; better for a longer term challenge.
5. Work In Tandem
I love running alone, it gives me an opportunity to reflect on things going on in life. But, for lifting, I aways preferred a partner. It can make the time fly and makes you more accountable. But, if you want to do it alone, a DVD can offer camaraderie, personally I like Tony Horton DVDs for this, he’s always talking to you!
6. Finish Fast
Try combining two moves into one! For example lunge as you do triceps extensions or squat between overhead presses. There are many ways to do this. (Ask, I can offer tips!)
Just Mix It Up!
Mixing it up is key to getting the most of your workouts. It doesn’t make any difference if you’re lifting or doing cardio. Because I run, I do different types of workouts; one day it’s easy, the next I’ll do intervals, sometimes I’ll add hills just to change it around! When lifting, I’ll sometimes work from the last to first, just to change things around.
