What Is A Super Shake And How To Make One?

One thing I’ve been doing for a long time is drinking a a “Super Shake” every day, it’s my breakfast. I use Beachbody’s Shakeology for the shake, it makes making the shake so much easier. But, if you’re not using Shakeology, below is how you can make your shake super.

Why should you drink Shakeology? Here’s a short video from one of the creators of it.

First, you have to pick a liquid. This can be water, unsweetened almond milk, soy milk, iced green tea, cow’s milk, iced coffee…you get the picture, something cold, hot liquid is not a good choice. The more liquid you use the thinner the shake will be. I use about 1 cup of unsweetened almond milk.

Next, it’s time to pick a protein powder. This can be whey protein, rice protein or other protein powders. Like I said above, I like Shakeology powder because it’s complete and there are vegan and gluten free flavors.

Third is to pick a fruit. I use both fresh and frozen fruit. I love raspberry or banana. You can get away just half a banana, I use a whole one if they’re fresh and about 3/4 of a frozen one.

Step 4 is to pick a vegetable. You choices are things like some dark leafy greens (spinach, kale…), beets and beet greens, cucumber celery, or pumpkin. I skip this step, my Shakeology has enough of what these add. If you use cucumber or celery (or other high water content veggie) adjust the liquid.

The next step is to pick a healthy fat. My favorite here is peanut butter (all natural) but you can choose walnuts, almonds, cashews, or something along the lines of chia seeds. These add flavor and give the shake an excellent consistency.

The last step is to pick a “topper.” This can be something like coconut, dark chocolate. If you’re using fresh fruit or you want an extra cold shake, ice cubes work well. Also, yogurt, oats, or cinnamon. Remember a little goes a long way.

This is one of my favorite videos on what makes Shakeology so great!

Now, my favorite Shake recipe is Banana/Peanut Butter!

Ingredients:

  • 10 ounces unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 fresh banana
  • 1 tablespoon all natural peanut butter
  • 1 scoop vanilla Shakeology
  • 1 teaspoon honey

Directions:
Place everything in a blender and blend until smooth.

If you want something a little tropical here’s a recipe for a Piña Colada shake!

Ingredients:

  • 10 ounces unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 cup frozen pineapple
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened coconut flakes
  • 1 scoop vanilla Shakeology

Directions:
Place everything in a blender and blend until smooth. The coconut may not blend all up, but the little pieces add texture to the shake.
